Welcome to Auction Action – a look back at what sold on online auction sites during the month of March. This month brought up a plethora of options for anyone looking to add Tigers’ memorabilia to their collections! – by Mike Carter

This 2018/19 primary shirt by Umbro prepared for use by Ondrej Mazuch was available for a steal of a price. It was listed at £79.99, however, after a few hours of hitting the ‘add to watchlist’ button, an offer landed in our inbox for £71.99. Shortly after that, the shirt was sold – likely when the seller distributed the offer to potential buyers.

As is often the case with online auctions, MatchWornShirt had to relist a poppy shirt due to the winning bidder not completing their transaction. On this occasion, it was worn by Matt Crooks, even though the listing says Matty – that is jarring, right? Ironically, it sold for £296, which was the price of the initial winning bid last year.

Onto 90’s replicas, and the condition of this 1992/93 primary shirt by Matchwinner, in size large, has probably affected its current-day value. It was listed at £207.66 (likely £200, plus eBay fees), and it sold using the best offer feature. The listing was great though, it was detailed with images showing the damage, meaning potential buyers could make an informed decision – exactly what you want as a buyer.

Next up we have a 1993/94 primary shirt by Pelada in size large, another one where the condition will have likely played a part. Overall, it looks good, but the crest has faded and has started to crack. Even with that though, it still tempted a couple of people to place bids, with the winner paying £113.08 to secure it.

Our final offer from the 1990s is a 1997/98 primary shirt by Super League, also in size large which sold for £52.70. The shirt looks to be in a good overall state, but the images do show some elements of pulls to the fabric, something which is quite common with the fabric used for this shirt.

Name and number printed replica shirts seem to be all the rage at the moment. I’m old enough to remember when it was uncool to have a pro’s name on your back, and some people may still say it is, but for those who think it is cool, here is what March had to offer…
There was a pair of 2004/05 shirts, both of which had Barmby and #8. The 2004/05 primary shirt by Diadora is size XXL, with long sleeves and was listed at £79.99 with the best offer option in play and is believed to have sold using that feature.

The second shirt from our centenary season was the 2004/05 change shirt by Diadora, in size XL, which was listed at £59.99 and also appears to have sold using the best offer feature. Barmby made his first of 197 appearances for his home town club in August 2004, so we can see why shirts from 2004/05 carrying his name would be very popular.

A very nice 2006/07 goalkeepers jersey by Diadora in XL, printed with #12 was listed in Sacramento, California. The selling price is unknown due to the fact that it was sold using the best offer option, but the asking price puts it at around £90 with taking into account the USD to GBP conversion rate. City’s number 12 in 06/07 was Matt Duke, but this shirt doesn’t carry his name. Could it have been issued for a pre-season game? Potentially, but we will never know for sure.

The Premier League could be part of our short term future, but until then we will have to look back at past kit designs that graced the country’s elite competition, and the next two did exactly that. Firstly, we have this 2009/10 primary shirt by Umbro in XL, which is new with tags and has Fagan #7 heat applied. It sold for an offer after being listed at £59.99.

Also, from 2009/10 is this change shirt in size large which has been pimped up with the name and squad number of local lad Liam Cooper. It was listed at just £29.99, and also sold using the best offer feature.

It is good when we can bring to you some retro training wear, and that is what we can do today with this sweatshirt from the Avec era! Listed as from 1999/00 the sweater was listed at £83.99 with the best offer available. However, the crux of this was the item’s location, and in turn the postage and import costs, which added a further £20+ to the deal for any UK buyers. It is more than likely that an offer was made and accepted here, with the seller sending potential buyers offers of £62.99 (plus postage and import fees).

To close, we have something rather unique. A match-used and squad-signed ball from The Tigers’ 4th round FA Cup tie with Chelsea, which was held at the MKM Stadium on Friday 13th February. The ball attracted at least six bidders and sold for £326 – with the winning bid landing with just 4 minutes to go in the auction.
That’s it for March, we’ll be back at the start of May for April’s offerings. Caveat emptor!
