Welcome to a bumper edition of Auction Action, where we’ll review the best Hull City merch sales via online sources in July 2025. We’ve got over 15 quality items to share this month, so we best get started…

One eBay seller (joannbal-11) had two absolute corkers available last month. Not only did they have a player issued/worn 1988/89 away shirt by Matchwinner with #16 on the reverse, they also had ANOTHER one, almost exactly the same, but this time it was the long-sleeved version, also with #16 on the back. Both of these items were listed at £200, with fees taking them to £208.68 each. Both shirts sold within minutes of going live, but that should be of no surprise to anyone.

Next up we have this 2004/05 home shirt by Diadora which the seller stated was matchworn by Nick Barmby. Regular searchers will have likely found this shirt on their searches. It was also listed on facebook marketplace, with an initial start price of £200. The price that it sold for on eBay is unknown, however it was listed at £115.08 as a buy it now price, with the best offer option live and it was eventually snapped up. Is this a player issue shirt? The sleeve patches are kosher, but there’s something about the letters and numbers that doesn’t seem full size. If this was obviously a matchworn Nick Barmby shirt, it would not have taken this long to sell.

This 2013/14 home shirt by adidas with Long and #21 on the back was available in July. It wasn’t listed as a player issue shirt, however having studied all the appliques, here at HCK HQ we feel like this could very well have been issued to Shane Long for his short stint as a Tiger in 2014. Priced at £71.99, it is an absolute steal if our theories were proven to be correct!

We discussed Hull City’s new auction site in a previous edition, so let’s take a look at what sold directly via the club in July. The next 6 listings were for ‘signed shirts’, these aren’t player issue or worn, something that buyers have to be very careful to check before placing a bid. City even include a disclaimer on each listing to ensure there is no confusion.
The four shirts with the highest selling values were: a 2024/25 third shirt which was printed up with Barry and #22 before being signed by Louie Barry that sold for £205. A 2024/25 home shirt which has been printed up with Matazo and #38, also signed by Eliot Matazo sold for £165 and thirdly a further 2024/25 third shirt printed with Belloumi and #33 that has been signed by Mohamed Belloumi sold for £155. Also selling for £155 was a 2024/25 home shirt printed with Puerta and #20, and signed by Gustavo Puerta.
The cynic in me has to question if any of these winning bidders thought these shirts are player issue. I understand that supporters like to support the club financially, but all of these could have been sealed in other ways much cheaper.
Another 2024/25 home shirt was available, this time signed by Joe Gelhardt, which sold for a much more understandable £70. A 2024/25 neon-pink Goalkeeper shirt sign by Carl Rushworth was listed, and sold for £80 after three bidders placed bids in pursuit of the shirt.
There was one match-worn shirt to sell via Hull City Auctions in July, and it was for an item we covered last month. We can only assume that it was relisted due to the original bidder not following through with their commitment to live up to their offer. It was for Abu Kamara’s 120th Anniversary fourth shirt, which sold for £355 – even though the link appears to state £350 until you open up the bids. Originally it ‘sold’ for £505 – The joint most of all the 120th Anniversary fourth shirts.

eBay seller ‘tiger-2410’ has been listing some brilliant shirts in July, with some listed that will end in August so will feature in next month’s Auction Action. The first of those that we will bring you today is an Isaac Hayden 2015/16 match worn poppy shirt. Hayden was an 87th minute substitute for the Tigers in a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on 7th November 2015 in the Tigers dedicated remembrance fixture that year. The shirt was listed at £156.68 and sold at 9:59PM on 31st July, meaning it only just hit the threshold for inclusion in July.

This 1992/93 home shirt by Matchwinner in size large, one of the most iconic and popular shirts in the Hull City pantheon, was listed at and sold for £156.68. On this occasion, the seller possibly undersold themselves a little.

You have to imagine that eventually the 1992/93 away shirt will get the Matchwinner X Hull City 21st century reproduction treatment, but until then the only way to own one of these is to source yourself an original! That is exactly what someone has done with this shirt, and they’ve ended up getting one for a great price – with this one selling for £62.04.

The next shirt was listed with the term ‘super rare’ in the title, and it is hard to argue against that claim. Goalkeeper shirts are usually manufactured in smaller quantities, and trying to find one from over 30 years ago is fairly tough, but if you were looking last month, then you may have found this diamond! A Pelada #1 shirt from circa 1994 – it was listed at £220, such as its rarity, and it sold for its asking price not long after being listed. Considering the size, too, which is a 30-32”, it makes the price even more eye opening.

We love covering Umbro third shirts, so here is another one for you! This 2019/20 Deep Lagoon third shirt by Umbro in size XL sold for £16.13. As the listing states, it is in brilliant condition and will have made for a great purchase for its new owner.

Something we haven’t covered before in Auction Action is base layers, which compress the muscles to reduce lactic acid build up and fatigue. They also compensate a little for kit suppliers not providing long-sleeved shirts. EFL rules insist on base layers are colour coordinated to match the playing kit. The one here by Kappa was from 2023/24 and will have been issued to wear with the home kit. It was listed for £21.47, however it did sell using the best offer feature.

The next one is a bit of a joke inclusion to Auction Action, but humour us a little bit – ‘est-1904’ listed an original “FISH OUT” cotton t-shirt from the year 2000! It features big bold text reading FISH OUT with a P.O. BOX address included and sold for £42.27 It is certainly a piece of Hull City memorabilia that is worth a mention in Auction Action!
That is all for July, but we already have our eyes on many items to bring you in August, and we still have plenty of time to go before we’re done!
