Welcome to a bumper edition of Auction Action, where we bring you the best of the Tigers apparel to go under virtual hammers in July… (writes Mike Carter)
Let’s start off with something very new! Shirts worn during the Fenerbahçe v. Hull City friendly fixture on 18th July were made available by matchwornshirt.com. It was the first opportunity for Tigers’ supporters to get their hands on the new Kappa 24/25 home shirt. The pick of the auction was the shirt worn by Alfie Jones, which finished at £200, closely followed by Lewie Coyle at £197, Jean Michael Seri at £193 and Regan Slater & Abdus Ömür at £192.

The pair of Ryan Giles and Sean McLoughlin had their shirts finish at £148, with Sincere Hall’s commanding £138, whilst the rest all finished at the opening bid price of £126. (Brandon Fleming, Nathan Tinsdale, Xavier Simons, Andy Smith, Ryan Longman and Matty Jacob).

Returning to our usual service, and player issue/worn shirts on eBay, this 2015/16 home shirt by Umbro worn by Sam Clucas, which has been squad signed on the back, was listed for £79.99, but we believe a best offer of £72 was the final sale price.

The next two shirts were both sold by the same seller. Let’s start with their 2017/18 home shirt worn by Spaniard Jon Toral in the FA Cup shirt against Chelsea! The shirt was listed at £119.99, but again we believe the sale was secured by the best offer feature with an accepted offer of £80.

Right-back Josh Emmanuel had a stuttering career at The Tigers, but his 2020/21 home shirt by Umbro was clearly appealing someone. Listed at £99.99, an offer was once again accepted that we assume was tempting enough to make the seller lower their valuation.
It isn’t often that we’ve been able to cover shirts sold via Classic Football Shirts due to their visibility disappearing however, we were fortunate enough to capture these three that had reached them via kitmen selling shirts they’d swapped during the 2023/24 season ..

A trio of 2023/24 home shirts were all listed at separate intervals during July. First up was Abdus Ömür’s shirt either issued to or worn by him against Leicester in March, was listed at £174.99 and sold within an hour of being listed.

Another shirt that didn’t hang around long on CFS was Regan Slater’s also from the Leicester home fixture. Once again listed at £174.99 it shows that people are happy to pay a premium for the legitimacy that comes with it.

The third and final 2023/24 home shirt belonged to loanee, Liam Delap and again was listed at £174.99. This shirt was issued to or worn by Delap against Preston at The MKM Stadium in October 2023.
That closes out what has to be the best availability for player specification shirts we’ve seen in some time, but we’re not done there… Onto vintage replicas.

This 1982-84 home shirt by Admiral in size small was available for £75. The shirt itself isn’t in the best nick, but for a 40+ year old shirt, it is what it is.

We expect sales of the original 1990-92 home shirt to jump up a little bit after City teamed up with Matchwinner to reproduce the 90s classic, and this is the case with this shirt in size medium! 3 bidders battled it out, with the victor ‘winning’ the auction with a bid of £132.

The other shirt in the 1990-92 kit-set was also available in July. An away shirt (first batch with embossed felt sponsor), also in size medium, proved to be incredibly popular after 11 bidders, placed 18 bids to push the sale value up to £138! A decent price to fork out on a replica shirt in today’s market.

The third replica shirt to sell for over £100 in July was this 1993/94 away shirt by Pelada in size XL. It set back its new owner £122.

Famous for its appearance on Renford Rejects, someone forked out £92 to look like Martin Delany in his 1995-97 away shirt by Super League when he played Jason Summerbee! This shirt in size medium sold for £92.

This 1997/98 away shirt by Super League in size XL sold for £70. Looking at the images, and at a close up of the sponsor, it appears to be in really good condition. A nice pick up for its new owner.

A shirt we haven’t covered too much previously is the 2000/01 home shirt by Avec, but we’re going to put that right now. This shirt was available in size medium and was listed at £50, with the best offer feature available!
Lastly, were going to cover some of the aforementioned retro reproduction shirts that have been re-sold on online auction sites. These four were all listed by the same seller as a medium and XXL sold for £49.99 and a large and XL sold for £54.99.

Medium – £49.99 , Large – £54.99 , XL – £54.99 , XXL – £49.99
That’s your lot for this month. We’ll be back at the beginning of September when League Football will have returned.
Caveat Emptor!
