uly might have been a wash out meteorologically speaking, and we’re always glad when it is over as that means the return of the Football League, but how was the month of July when it comes Hull City apparel and paraphernalia sold online? Mike Carter lists the most intriguing of listings!
Match-worn shirt sales seem to have been in short supply recently. Those that have been available haven’t really caught the eye of the masses, and in turn, has led to another very quiet month. The only match-worn shirt we have to bring you is this 2002/03 home shirt worn by Richard Hinds and full squad signed. It didn’t sell at the first time of asking, and I’m sure it didn’t sell the second time around either. Eventually, an offer of around the £50 asking price secured its new owner.
This very appealing 1986-88 home shirt by Admiral in size large was listed at £245, but it didn’t hang around for long. This is another example of the best offer feature being used to secure a shirt ahead of the listing completing, meaning we don’t have an accurate sales figure.
The 1993/94 away shirt by Pelada is one that has always sold well online, and this one is size 42/44 is no different. An offer of likely around £225 for this one in size large was enough for a bidder to ‘win’ the right to buy this shirt.
The bargain of the month can only be one sale, and it is this 1998/99 home shirt in size large. It was listed at £20 as a buy it now, and I’m sure it’s new owner will be very happy with their new shirt, assuming it doesn’t get flipped for more down the line.
This 1999/00 away shirt by Avec in size large sold for around £139.99, in July. When we look in the HCK Auction Action archives, we can see that this value is above what previous shirts have sold for. The last we covered sold in a similar size was in April 2023 and sold at £65, around half of the price of this shirt.
All-amber shirts are all the range in 2023/24, but this 2000/01 home shirt by Patrick in size large finished before the world knew about that. Either way, £44.99 was enough to secure it.
Continuing with all-amber shirts, the historic 2007/08 home shirt by Umbro in size large was available for £51. 12 bids from 6 pushed this shirt to the highest value we’ve seen a standard replica sell for.
Replica goalkeeper shirts aren’t widely available as outfield shirts, but at HCK HQ, we like to make sure they get their 15 minutes of fame. This GK shirt from 2014/15 by Umbro in size large sold for an offer of around £30.
We have mentioned in the past about third shirts from the mid to late 2010s holding their retail value at resale in the past, and these next two shirts are a great example of this. Firstly, this 2015/16 third shirt by Umbro in size XXL has sold for £51, which is more than the RRP when the shirt was new 7 years ago.
And our back to back examples continue with the 2020/21 third shirt by Umbro in size XL. This one sold for £49.99, the same as the shirt retailed at.
As usual, and where possible, we would like to close with some printed replica shirts. The oldest is this 2005/06 home shirt by Diadora printed with Stuart Green and 14. A desirable shirt, in a desirable size (large) and at a desirable price (£39.99 approx). Lovely.
Stephen Hunt was arguably the best player for Hull City in 2009/10, and this home shirt by Umbro in XL, printed with his name and number sold for £47.99, on the final day of the month.
Also, from 2009/10, this Tom Cairney away shirt in size small sold for around £35.99.
The final shirt is this Tom Huddlestone 2014/15 away, also in size small and with Premier League competition patches sold for £45.59.
That’s your lot, we’ll see you next month to run the rule over August’s offerings!
