Were we showered with available polyester in April? This is Auction Action, the monthly series where we mine the web to see what Hull City memorabilia (with a focus on shirts) has gone under the virtual hammer… (Writes Mike Carter)
As ever we start with player shirts… and first up is this match worn George Boyd 2013/14 home shirt. It sold for a tidy £95.39, after 6 bidders declared their interested with virtual bids! It is a shame that it has been signed with a bold felt pen, but other than that, it is a beauty!
Another owner has ‘fired’ this Andy Cannon 2020/21 FA Cup match issue shirt. This is now the third time that we’ve covered it, since it’s first appearance in October 2022 where it sold for £120. This time it sold for an offer, after being listed at £144. We know it made it to Singapore, after stays in Hull, Malton and Cardiff, but where has it ended up after this latest sale? History tells us we may know soon enough.
Matt’s Legends FC on Facebook auctioned off a Lewie Coyle 2022/23 away shirt in April, with the proceeds going to ‘Bone Cancer Research Trust. The winning bidder was Danny Warneck with a bid of £225! Congratulations to Matt’s Legends, Danny and Lewie on raising a great total for a worthy cause.
Moving onto replicas, this 1992/93 home shirt by Matchwinner sold for an offer, after being initially listed at £199.99. The shirt is on the small side, which contributes towards the sale being at the lower end of the cost spectrum that we would expect. I’m sure someone will be very happy with their purchase here.
If purple is your colour, the 1999/00 away shirt by Avec could be one of your favourites! 3 bidders placed 10 bids between them in a battle to win this shirt! Size XL is a size that we usually see as a popular one, meaning it finally sold for £65.
We came across a couple of goalkeeper shirts in April that we thought were worthy of inclusion in Auction Action. Firstly, we have this 2009/10 two-tone grey shirt in Boaz Myhill’s favoured size… XXL. The price of £32.99 proved too tempting to someone who snapped it up for the asking price.
The second netminder shirt was a 2010/11 season yellow jersey by adidas, and is also XXL. A slightly higher price of £45.99 was paid for this one.
2008/09 was probably the best season in a Hull City shirt for Michael Turner. His performances caught the attention of the big 6 in the Premier League. This XXL away shirt from the clubs’ inaugural season in the top flight, printed with Turner’s name and number sold for £29.99.
Moving into 2009/10 and this away shirt in size medium, printed with Jimmy Bullard’s name and number sold for £24.99. Which was approximately the equivalent of 0.0000054937% of his salary from his time with the club. Genuinely.
Robert Koren was one of the stars of our third season in the Premier League, so it is no shock to see a 2013/14 away shirt by adidas with his name on become available. This one was a size large and sold for an offer, after being listed at £71.99.
Our final printed shirt comes from 2014/15 and by the way of this home shirt in size large printed with the name and number of one of the most technically gifted footballers to play for Hull City, Tom Huddlestone. A steady £19.26 was enough to secure this shirt for its new owner.
Lastly, we will close with this absolute MONSTROSITY of a shirt. It is a 2005/06 home shirt – when City played in the Championship, printed with Premier League sleeve patches and a name and number set of Hayes, 7… You can make up your own conclusion on how we feel about it.
That’s your lot, smudge back in a month when we’ll look at May’s offerings.
