You still can’t buy a 2022/23 away shirt after the first full month of the season, but what was August like for other Tigers polyester sold online? Mike Carter (@MikeyCarter90) gives us the run down…

Starting with the only match-worn shirt we have to cover this month, this Peter Halmosi 2009/10 away shirt was won at auction for £55 after 13 bids. Match-worn shirts from 2009/10 are very common, probably the most common and easiest to source.

Though shirts in the match-worn/issued category were hard to come by in August, replica shirts certainly weren’t. We’ve picked out the best ones to run the HCK fine tooth comb over…

The oldest shirt we have picked out is this 1984-86 home shirt (incorrectly listed as from 1982-84) in size medium it fetched a final price of £126.56. The price is fairly consistent with the auction prices we’ve seen for this era.

The second 80s shirt we have to cover is a 1986-88 primary shirt in ‘extra small’, which really means ‘child’s size’. It sold for £79.50.

The final shirt from that decade is a 1988-89 home shirt in size XL. This sold for £150 and garnered just 1 bid, which was likely due to the high start price. There is no guarantee that this would have sold for more if it was listed with a lower start price, but I feel comfortable stating that there would have been more interest in the shirt.

One shirt we’ve seen a fair bit of on Auction Action in recent months is the 1995-97 home shirt. This one in size large sold for £154.76, give or take depending on the exchange rate. It was listed by a seller in Ukraine. How do these shirts end up in eastern Europe? That’s a question for a different blog.

12 bids were made by three people trying to win this 1995/97 away shirt in a size medium. One of them did and paid £122 won. This price is a little bit down on what we’ve seen in the past.

This 2003/04 away shirt in a size large sold for £40. Listed as a buy it now, this shirt by Patrick didn’t stay around for long. Another 2003/04 away shirt, also in size large. sold £59.99 on the same day. A similar price was paid for a 2002/03 away shirt that also served as the 2003/04 third shirt. This one was initially listed at £58.80 and again, would be shipped from Ukraine.

Goalkeeper jerseys are something we’re trying to include a little bit more in Auction Action, so here we have a dark grey top from 2005/06 in size XL. It sold for an offer of (likely) around £45. It has been available for some time, so it’s good to see it find a new owner.

PURPLE CACTUS SHIRT KLAXON! One of my favourite third shirts of the modern era is the 2016/17 third shirt. Somehow this one in a size small ended up selling for £70. Which feels really high for a shirt of this size. Anyway, what a beauty!

There’s two more third shirts to cover next: this 2018/19 third shirt in size XL was picked up by someone for just £21, a steal! This 2019/20 third shirt in size XXL was picked up for an offer, after being listed at £40. Umbro have delivered City some belters and this one is up there.

Moving on…we have seen the 2021/22 away shirt go for some ridiculous amounts in recent times and this one falls right into that category. Now classed as the original blackout shirt, after Corendon Airlines took over sponsorship, this one sold for £102.

This looks to be a prototype of the 2021/22 away shirt. Again, based in Europe and sold for approximately £42.36 after just 1 bid. This might not be The seller was based in Turkey, which is where the blackout shirts were manufactured. Prototypes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is a lovely sponsor-less shirt, something that some fans clamour for.

Another goalkeeper jersey to feature is this ‘Beetroot Purple’ design from the 2021/22 season in size XL. £34 was all it took for this shirt to gain a new owner.

Ending this edition of Auction Action with printed replicas, we have this framed 2009/10 Jimmy Bullard home shirt. Shirts like this are given to sponsors of each player. This one sold for £86 after 5 bids.

Wrapping things up for August is this 2011/12 away shirt printed with Fryatt #12.The shirt is an XXXL and sold for £33.59, again coming from war-torn Ukraine.

We’ll be back in early October to round up September’s Auction Action, see you then, and remember ‘caveat emptor‘!
