Sun kissed July! The month of International tournaments climaxing (Check. Though it was the delayed Women’s Euro’s rather than the World Cup because of oil money and coin eyed FIFA exec), the start of pre-season and maybe a brief overseas tour (Check, City’s hastily arranged visit to Turkey to play Fenerbahçe and a quick Spanish jaunt to face Málaga), but absolutely not the start of the EFL season. Unless of course, the aforementioned oil money and coin eyed FIFA execs conspire to see domestic seasons brought forward so a Winter World Cup can happen. **shakes fist**

Still, 2022/23 started well for City, with an opening day, last gasp victory for the Tigers over Bristol City. But, how was July for Hull City textiles? Mike Carter (@MikeyCarter90) reports on what went under the virtual hammer in July…

We start with the one and only match-worn shirt available, a 2013/14 be-poppied change shirt worn by Paul McShane at Southampton in a remembrance fixture. It sold for £134, which is considerably less than you’d have to pay to get one imported from America! Surely, you’ve seen them on eBay…

July was a good month for sales of replica shirts, however. This could be attributed to the return of live football and supporters wanting to wear retro shirts to games.

The best offer option on eBay is a feature that is now heavily used, but it does make our deal-watching lives hard as we can’t accurately report the final sale values, but we will do our best.

This 1990/92 home shirt in a size medium was listed at £75 but a best offer secured the wares.

1992/93 home shirts have been selling for considerably less than they did during 2020 and 2021. This is great news if you’re looking to buy one but somewhat unfortunate if you’re now looking to sell yours. The first 1992/93 home shirt that was listed had a price of £350. The second 1992/93 home shirt had a price of £290. Both of the shirts available were a size medium. Ironically the shirt that was lower prices appeared to be in a better condition than the higher priced shirt. Once again, both of these were sold to buyers using the best offer option.

The 1993/94 change shirt is another that still sells for a good price and this one was no different. The shirt is a size small and was listed at £200. It did sell having the best offer feature activated, so again, we unfortunately don’t know the true value of the sale.

The 1994/95 limited edition shirt, as we know, was never worn in match action and was just leisurewear, but it is still a shirt that is looked upon fondly. One was listed at £120, which is around the value of the last one that we covered in October 2021 (£102). With the best offer option being activated it is possible that the sale was around the same value.

We have seen some very strange prices for the 1995-97 home shirt, but this one is more what I would expect the shirt to be worth. It fetched around £75, after the best offer option was used.

Moving into the late 90s now with this 1998/99 home shirt in a size large. It was listed for  £190 and sold with the best offer option being utilised.

The last few shirts we have covered were all listed by the same seller, and the next couple are no different. This 1997/98 home shirt in size large was listed at £80, a little bit lower than our two previous experiences of £129.99 and £89.99. Again, the best offer option secured this shirt for its new owner.

We now have a piece of long-sleeved goodness to cover! This 1999/00 home shirt, the first City replica available in long sleeve form, sold for a buy it now price of £40. This wasn’t the only 1999/00 home shirt as a short-sleeved version was available too. That one sold for £62 after being listed as an auction. 7 bids from 2 battling bidders saw the price jump from its £50 starting price within the last 30 minutes.

Replica shirts from the 2000s haven’t been covered much in the past, so I am going to correct that this time around with some bargains, starting with the 2001/02 home shirt. This shirt in size XL sold for £36. For a shirt that is 20 years old, this is a ‘new’ great retro option for someone!

Talking of bargains this 2002-04 home shirt finished at £21.99 after 11 bids. Once again in size XL so a desirable shirt that many could wear, if they desired.

The beautiful 2002-03 away shirt was available and sold for £79.49 in a size medium. It feels like a chancer-sale which has paid off for the seller as this is more than I would expect for this shirt to sell for.

Now we move into the printed replica sales, where we have a further two shirts to cover. This 2003/04 away shirt has been printed with Burgess, 9 on a shirt that is size small. It has floated around eBay for some time and finally sold in July 2022 for £45.

From one number 9 to another, this 2009/10 home shirt has been printed with USA international Jozy Altidore’s name. The shirt sold for £59.99, which to me feels a lot for someone who didn’t have a particularly successful period at the club.

To finish we have this Matchwinner early 1990s training top. This is probably the piece which impresses me the most from this month’s sales and it sold for a very reasonable £68.56. Training wear from this era doesn’t crop up that often, but we have seen some in the last couple of months.

That’s your lot for July, join us in early September when we’ll ogle the apparel bought in August!
