Europa, the first kit supplier to have their logo externally visible on a City shirt, pushed the boundaries of branding yet further when they added their wordmark underneath their anvil like logo. The updated shirts were often intermixed with the original batch of shirts of shirts which had a noticeably smaller maker’s mark.

The number 7 shirt was worn by several players in 1977/78, with Gordon Nisbet, Chris Galvin (of shuffle fame) and Paul Haigh wearing it the most. Also donning 7 at one point or another that year, in which City were relegated from Division Two, were Dave Sunley, Derek Hood, John Hawley, Dave Hawker and Vince Grimes.
